Presentation

The plane tree, a symbol!

The first plane tree was symbolically planted in 1790, just after the French Revolution. On September 8, 1793, General Ricardos' troops entered our town, ransacking it and felling the Tree of Liberty. Later, the people of Rivesalt wanted to replace it. In a letter dated February 13, 1836, the Prefect informed the Mayor that he could collect a plane tree from the departmental nursery. It was planted on February 19 of the same year. It was therefore planted over 170 years ago! It is also said that a branch had to be cut off to prevent the clock hands from turning. Today, its trunk is over 5 metres in circumference. Listed as a historical monument.
